Cape Cleveland Coastal Wetlands Awareness and Community Education


Location:  Wetlands in the Cungulla area


Organisation: WetlandCare Australia


Project Summary:

Cungulla is a representative example of an inter-dunal wetland system and is an important fish breeding and nursery ground for recreational and commercial fish species.

Wetland Care Australia will undertake awareness building activities and, in partnership with the Cungulla community, investigate sites to undertake weed control and revegetation activities to enhance the local wetlands.

Area: 18 hectares

Activities:
•    Advised WetlandCare Australia (WCA) that a meeting would be required with community and other stakeholders before finalising area of works and funding – October 2011
•    Met with Terri Buono (WCA) and discussed actions required including conversations/meetings with: CRFSC (Karyn), DERM/QPWS (tenure) and TCC (Adam King and Jason Lange) – 9 November 2011
•    Site visit with Terri Buono. Boat ramp vicinity chosen as the rehabilitation site - 24 February 2012
•    Site visit with Simon Igloi (TCC) - 10 May 2012
•    Discuss potential for project completion with Karen Vidler (CVA) - May 2012
•    Creek to Coral to manage project completion with CVA volunteer teams (sub project included with 7 Cungulla Wetland Clean-up and Weed Control) – July 2012

•    Boat ramp foreshore site visit with Chris Pronk (TCC). Met with Graeme Lawrence and John from No. 12 - 9 November 2012
•    Site works Cungulla clearing weeds from the area north of the boat ramp with CVA – 19 November 2012
•    Site works Cungulla clearing weeds from the area north of the boat ramp with CVA. Touch base with Graham Lawrence and John (No. 12) – 21 November 2011
•    Site visit with NQDT to northern section to view Coral Creeper – 25 January 2013
Follow up weed control and plantings (Thuarea) at the boat ramp foreshore – 5 and 8 March 2013
